• Grapes
    Greener rachis for
    longer with RYPEN
A healthy, fresh rachis is the key to achieving better tasting longer lasting grapes (RYPEN commercial pilot results).
  • Grapes
    Extending optimal grape
    condition for longer
RYPEN moderates the ethylene emitted by the rachis, preventing uncontrolled
signalling to grape berries that would otherwise respire and ripen too quickly (RYPEN commercial pilot results).
  • Grapes
    Protect grapes with RYPEN
    and increase your returns
Long distance shipping and delays can result in ethylene building up
    – resulting in deductions due to the sub-optimal quality of grapes on arrival (RYPEN commercial pilot results).
  • Case liner

Recent evidence has shown that the grape rachis (stems and stalks) both emit and are sensitive to ethylene. This manifests itself in the browning of the rachis. Rachis quality is integral to the arrival condition and marketability of grape berries. RYPEN has been proven across multiple trials and commercial pilots to help reduce the rate of de-greening and degradation of the rachis which in-turn reduces shatter and maintains the firmness of the berry.

  • Ethylene is one of the causes of rachis browning (Zou et al., 2023)

RYPEN products have proven to decrease berry shatter and reduce Botrytis infections even further – all of which results in fewer claims and better returns.
  • Red Crimson table grapes South Africa to Netherlands (shipping time 35 days) 50% reduction in overall defects 30% reduction in rachis browning
  • Sugar Crisp table grapes Peru to Europe (shipping time 23 days) 88% reduction in overall defects 80% reduction in rachis browning

Table Grapes are one of the most economically important export crops in the world and include modern varieties like ‘Sweet Globe,’ ‘Autumn Crisp,’ and ‘Cotton Candy,’ offering a range of flavours to excite tastebuds from sweet and juicy to tart and crunchy.

The key to export success is delivering improved storage life and disease resistance from the field all the way through to the consumer.

Global exports typically peak from August to November in the Northern Hemisphere, from February to April in the Southern Hemisphere and from September to March in Peru.

In 2024 leading exporter regions include Peru with 480,000mt’s, Chile 564,000mt’s, Mexico 190,000mt’s, South Africa 330,000mt’s and Italy 900,000mt’s.

Table grapes are a mature market with breeders and growers bringing innovation to drive strong demand growth in the Asian and far-east markets – for new extra-sweet, larger and crunchier grapes.
